Chris Argh-cher wet the bed again

Chris Argh-cher continued his surreal spiral, leaving the bullpen to mop-up duty again last night.

Dana Eveland, Ryan Webb, Danny Farquhar and Steven Geltz did the best they could when handed pails and soapy water to clean up the sludge left behind after the supposed ace allowed six runs and eight hits in just 4 1/3 innings in the 7-3 loss to the Red Sox. The damage was done after Argh-cher served up meatballs fit for the fine Italian establishments in Boston’s North End.

Argh-cher is 0-4 with a 7.32 ERA in four starts this season. It’s fair to wonder if he’s playing mind games with himself. This is ugly.

Obviously, we’ve seen that he has the stuff to be one of baseball’s top pitchers. The preseason Cy Young Award hype didn’t fall out of the sky by accident. But something is screwed up with him.

He must figure it out. Pronto.

The good news is that other starters have shown a heartbeat. Jake Odorizzi, Matt Moore and Drew Smyly have improved, and the bullpen has held up well after being stretched early. And then there’s Erasmo Ramirez’s magic.

If only the Rays could put a little Erasmo-mentum in Argh-cher, all would be well.

What is this obsession with the bullpen. Day after day with box scores and data. Bullpen’s don’t win games, they only save them.

I saw James Loney drinking a Cuba Libre at Trader Vic’s and his hair was perfect.
