Newest Ray Can’t Play
February 13th, 2017
Nathan Eovaldi
The Rays’ official website appears to be blessing a rumored signing of an injured starting pitcher.
He’s righty Nathan Eovaldi. The 27-year-old had Tommy John surgery last year and will miss this season.
His new Rays contract, per ESPN, is for $2 million this season and includes an option for 2018.
Eovald (who could forget) was a whopping 14-3 as a starter for the Yankees in 2015, before an injury-shortened, 9-8 season last year.
Very interesting play by Tampa Bay. It takes some balls for a low-payroll team to sign a guy who can’t play. Tremendous upside potential with this move. And it’s clear the Rays are extremely confident they know how to bring guys back from Tommy John surgery.
