Pretty cool stuff here from Kevin Cash, the skipper of a Rays team with a three game winning streak.
In this Tuesday interview with the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig on WDAE-AM 620, Cash explains that after Blake Snell’s rough last start in Toronto he was a little concerned about Snell’s mental state. So, Cash sent Drew Smyly to feel him out.
Cash said Smyly returned with a good report of Snell talking already focused on his next outing. In turned out to be on the money, with Snell picking up is fourth win of the season in a 15-rout of San Diego on Tuesday night.

One thing about Smyly, he doesn’t give up easily. With his poor record and an arm that looks like it’s going to fall off, he trots out their every 4th day and gives it his all. He’s not blowing away anybody with his 90 mph heater. I guess you could call him a sneaky finesse lefty now, where before he’d blow it past you at 95.

The kid is not a quitter Darth, that is for sure! Definitely has the tools to be the #4 guy in the rays rotation! Until Willy Adames shows up, Drew S and that kid from Seattle who went ape vs the Pads last night (Nicky Franklin) are what the rays got for trading what was their best pitcher ever in Dave Price…. Adames is the key in that one, but the id is still in Montgomery; i guess we will see him in 2019 or so…..
