Happy Non-Waiver Trade Deadline day
August 1st, 2016
Can’t develop a stick.
Hyped yet? OK, so if Opening Day is Christmas, this is more like Tax Day. But for transaction geeks, this spot on the calendar is their idea of a Saturday-night rager.
Will a deal involving the Rays get done before 4 p.m.? It seems more likely than not that Tampa Bay’s roster will go through some change by the end of the afternoon. Two of the most popular names thrown around in recent hours are Matt Moore and Chris Archer.
FOX Sports baseball savant Ken Rosenthal twittered out these nuggets of info featuring the starters yesterday, the same day the Rays polished off a three-game sweep of the Yanks at the Trop with a 5-3 victory.
#Rays believe #Dodgers are one of about four teams with talent to land Archer. Question now is whether any of those clubs will meet price.

Sources: #SFGiants pursuing #Rays’ Matt Moore, viewing him as controllable LHP to go with Bumgarner. Might not have prospects to get him.

Joe thinks it would be a surprise if Moore didn’t get sent away. Archer’s departure seems like more of a stretch, even though it wouldn’t shock to see Rays baseball boss Matt Silverman tango with ol’ buddy and Dodgers general manager Andrew Friedman to seal a deal. (We’ve seen them burn cell-phone minutes before, after all.)
It will be fascinating to watch how everything shakes out. For the Rays, a win on this day could lead to big victories later.
Plenty is on the line.

Does anybody notice the difference in the starting pitching staff since Hammering Hank Conger got sent down to AAA at the All Star break ? Coincidence ? Luke Maile can actually block pitches in the dirt AND throw runners out. I would love to know the reason behind acquiring Conger from Texas in the first place. When I first read about his record on throwing out runners, I flipped ! Thinking “Am I the one seeing this?”

Sorry to see Guyer going to the Cleveland Indians. Good things happened when he was playing. I guess 30 is too old now. The 2 minor leaguers they got back were not listed as a top 20 prospect for the Indians. Low A ball & rookie league.

Please fire Derek Shelton time for a new approach

Does Matt Silverman have a FING clue, what’s the point in trading Moore for a 3B when that’s the only position we don’t need

Guzzie, I am guessing that the kid Duffy the Giants sent to the Rays will land at SS or perhaps 2nd base. No way he is going to eat into Longo’s time at third. Supposedly he can play all 4 positions around the horn. My concern is that last year he was 2nd place in ROY voting and this year has regressed and is currently on the DL. This makes me think back to when the D”Rays under LOU Pinella acquired Ben Grieve who was ROY for the A’s and we all saw what happened to him in Tampa. I hope Derek Shelton doesn’t ruin this kid’s bat! As far as everyone else the Rays acquired: typical Rays in getting a bunch of A-ballers, one of which was the Giants #4 prospect but YEARS away from helping any team at the MLB level if he ever does. Too bad the rays could not land Gallo or Jurickson Profar from the Rangers or that Austin Meadows kid from the Pirates as all 3 are ready to help mthe Rays now….
