Hoped For Winning Formula Shows Up Again

Beckham likes bunches
Just think, if the Rays played the Rockies all the time, Tampa Bay would be a playoff contender.
The Rays clinched a series win in impressive fashion with an 11-3 thumping yesterday at Coors Field. Many hands dipped in this cookie jar. Steve Pearce, Steven Souza Jr. and five-hit-machine Tim Beckham – Tim Beckham! – had two RBIs each. Evan Longoria and Logan Forsythe also had an RBI apiece.
The good news didn’t end there. Chris Archer regained some of his old form, baffling Colorado hitters in allowing just two runs and four hits with 11 strikeouts in six innings. It marked Archer’s first win since June 6.
Turns out, Beckham had a little chat with Archer yesterday. The Associated Press was there to collect the details.
“He kept telling me, `Hey man, we go as you go — attack, attack,'” Archer said. “Out of the five hits he had, that was the nicest thing he did for me, personally.”
Joe likes that Beckham helped calm down Archer. Everything about this rout was satisfying. Hopefully, Archer can keep the mojo going in his next start.
Man, the past two days show what could have been with the Rays this season. A dangerous offense complemented strong starting. In better times, this formula was expected to play out time and time again and lift the good guys to the postseason.

Joe – I think fairy dust has gotten into your eyes. Their record is what they are and looking back, they’ve rarely beat the good teams this year in a series. Only the below average and poor teams. The defense is still giving up extra outs which kills a pitcher’s confidence. Actually, I like Steve Pearce at 1st base. Ship out Logan Morrison and Cory Dickerson. Brad Miller is on double secret probation. I really like his bat speed through the hitting zone though. Reminded me of Manny Ramirez when he was with the Rays in spring training. Amazing bat speed.

I have to agree with Darth, beating up on Colorado is like beating the Twins and all that says is that they are better than a handful of bad teams but still are in the bottom 10…… And the As are not much better so it would be nice if they roll up a small winning streak on the left coast but all that is going to do is get the team to avoid losing 100. I do not see this club going better than 70-92….

These once in a blue moon wins don’t feel like much when the team is this far behind. Everybody loves a winner or a favorite team in the thick of the competitive action, especially in a season of so many games. Without that, interest falls off the cliff. There’s always tomorrow’s, as in next season. Not to throw a damper on fan’s enthusiasm, but kind of depressing.
