“Sickening, To Say The Least.”
June 8th, 2016What’s one way to make manager Kevin Cash queasy?
Take his would-be closer off the field with a muscle strain in the left side.
Cash opened up about his feelings after Brad Boxberger left the field with an oblique injury on May 31 in Kansas City. It took just 16 pitches for Boxberger to be shelved again after a lengthy recovery from adductor surgery. Boxberger is back on the disabled list and could be out another month or two.
Speaking with the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig of 620 WDAE-AM, Cash revealed how his stomach churned that night.
“Sickening, to say the least,” Cash said yesterday. “They’re all tough, and with Box, we were just so excited to get him back and lengthen out our bullpen a little bit. We know he’s a guy that we can just throw in there in some huge innings for us and help us win games. It has been an accumulation of plenty of injuries this year, but that one on the field, that one stung everybody a little bit.”
Joe understands how Cash feels. Heck, everyone was pumped to see Boxberger back, presumably primed to throw heat once more. At the very least, he was going to provide needed bullpen depth.
Now the Rays must wait longer for Boxberger’s rebooted return. And who knows what he will be like when he’s back?
Sickening, indeed.

The box is gone; get used to it. Put one of starters (Moore?) in the bullpen and call up Snell. The closing job is in good hands with Colome, thank you very much. Problem solved.

It’s an interesting note that Matt Moore, Drew Smyly, & Chris Archer are tied for 2nd place in the majors for giving up home runs at 14. Who would have thunk it at the beginning of the season ?

Even with the win this afternoon its still such a crappy season…. A roller coaster ride that sometimes makes you smile and get excited but for the most part your face is inches from kissing the ground from the nose dive this team seems to always be on
