Alex Colome Gets Shelved

June 29th, 2016

Alex ColomeThe Rays’ bullpen is showing more signs of wear than a rusted Ford Pinto.

Now Alex Colome has a problem.

The Rays placed Colome on the disabled list yesterday, retroactive to June 19, with right medial biceps tendinitis after he experienced soreness following a bullpen session Saturday in Baltimore.

Colome told reporters at the Trop that he feels like his condition isn’t serious. He hopes to come back Monday, but manager Kevin Cash cautioned that Colome must follow a process before returning to the mound.

“We’re optimistic that it very well could be there,” Cash said, via Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. “But now we have the time to get him (to throw) off the mound, potentially face some hitters and see where he’s at.”

A prolonged absence by Colome would be another stiff blow for Tampa Bay, which has taken plenty of bruises lately, including last night’s 8-2 pounding by the Red Sox. He’s 19-for-19 on save attempts this season, and he has posted a stellar 1.76 ERA.

Save situations haven’t been common for the Rays in recent weeks. But if they need a lockdown arm in the ninth inning soon, Colome won’t be there to provide peace of mind.

Joe thinks if the Rays’ situation wasn’t so sad, it would be funny.

Actually Joe, I had a new 1974 Fiat that completely rusted out in less than 3 years. I think it was a record at the time only to be bested by that fine product from Yugoslavia named, you guessed it, Yugo. Amazing what Chicago winters can do to the workmanship from Italy. Don’t ask me why I bought a Fiat. Never owned a Yugo.

Well last night the Rays could have used Colome Joe! Garton and Ramirez really stunk up the Trop! I know Cash has few options left: but why pull Andriesse who was cruising and if you do why not go with Xavier Cedano???? Its like Cash bet his house on the Tigers last night and had to find a way to lose! Disgusting! Fire Cash and I am amazed the rays did not send Garton back to AAA on a red eye from TIA last night!
