Change That Scenery

June 20th, 2016

SheltonRaysRays pitchers left the weekend series against the Giants with plenty of bruises.

Pick a day, any day, in the recent face plant against San Francisco at the Trop, and good vibes in the pitching department were in short supply. Chris Archer was tagged Friday, Alex Colome was roughed up Saturday and then Xavier Cedeno and Tyler Sturdevant were tossed around like rag dolls Sunday in a 5-1 loss.

This series was a kick in the nads. The Giants are white-hot right now, so Joe understands that the Rays ran into a buzz saw. Still, it’s disheartening that Tampa Bay can go from winning four consecutive series to receiving the broom treatment faster than a dust bunny in a sterile room.

Now it’s time to hit the road. Hopefully, the Rays can regain a heartbeat in the City that LeBron Built and take at least two of three games against the Indians early this week. Then it’s off to Baltimore to face the Orioles in a four-game series from Friday through Sunday, with a doubleheader on Saturday.

After taking a spanking from San Francisco at home, perhaps a change of scenery will serve the Rays well.

Funny how the Rays play well against the 2nd tier of MLB but against the elite teams, they become unglued.

They simply are not at the same level as KC or SF.

I was at the game for Father’s Day on Sunday along with 10,000 other lost souls. This “not ready for prime time” Rays could only manage 1 unearned run against Old man pitcher Peavy. Peavy brought a 5 + ERA and a fastball that rarely hit 90 mph. The Rays were overwhelmed. I’d like to explain what happened during all this excitement, but I fell asleep around the 4th inning and didn’t wake up until the 8th & 9th when Colome & Sturdevant couldn’t find the plate and the Giants showed why they are in 1st place and why we are in last place. I asked my wife if my snoring bothered the guy next to me. She said no; he was snoring too.

I wonder if they sell No-dose at one of the booths. Could be a big money maker.
