The Ol’ Room Service Mystery

May 17th, 2016

roomerviceHey Steve Geltz, try takeout next time.

Think you’ve had a bad run of luck? You could be Geltz, a popular piñata of late.

A day after dishing up a ninth-inning meatball to Oakland’s Danny Valencia in a wretched loss at the Trop, Geltz experienced an allergic reaction in Toronto that forced his right eye shut. The alleged culprit: Room service. It’s all part of month in which he’s 0-2 with a grisly 4.32 ERA in eight appearances.

Bill Chastain of MLB.com has the details north of the border:

[Geltz] said he’d ordered room service and felt a stinging in his eye. He went to grab a tissue to tab at his eye and within a minute his eye had swollen shut.

“It’s the third time it’s happened this season,” said Geltz, who noted that he planned on going in for some tests once the team returns to St. Petersburg. “…In 27 years I’ve never had allergies, but now I guess I do.”

Geltz managed an ironic smile about his fate lately.

“It’s been a terrible month,” he said.

The good news is Geltz pitched a spotless sixth inning in a 13-2 romp over the Blue Jays on Monday at Rogers Centre. Maybe the low-pressure outing is what he needs to shake off his recent slump.

Just lay off horrible hotel grub, Steve.

I’ve got it ! Coach Cash-less can bring him when we are up by 10 runs or more. Love those low pressure outings. Good thinking !
