Historic 1-Hit Loss

May 30th, 2016

OdorizziUgh, not quite Nono-dorizzi!

Jake Odorizzi was oh-so close to a no-hitter yesterday at the Trop, pitching a gem in allowing just two runs on one hit in seven innings. So of course, the Rays found a way to lose, with Starlin Castro’s two-run home run with one out in the seventh inning enough to trump the Rays’ lone run.

Xavier Cedeno and Erasmo Ramirez surrendered nothing in two innings of relief. But the story from this 2-1 head-scratcher was Odorizzi’s big day and Tampa Bay’s larger offensive face-plant.

It was the Yanks’ first one-hit win since 1914!

The silver lining from this mess was that Odorizzi was amazing and, given that his magnificence came on the heels of Matt Moore’s solid Saturday, perhaps the starting pitching has begun to turn a corner. It’s a little early to declare starters cured of their recent mound flu, but recent signs are encouraging.

Still, Joe finds it frustrating to be a Rays fan now. If the offense hums, there’s a good chance you have to worry about crappy pitching. If the pitching comes around, the offense goes into hibernation.

Can we get a little consistency here?

It seems simple enough. But knowing these Rays, that’s probably asking too much.

Joebullpen.com is happy because they didn’t give up a run in relief but Odorizzi had to be carted off in a strait jacket.

Joebullpen.com skipped the part where the bull pen was handed an eight run lead and tried their to blow it, but let’s all admire the bullpen stats because that’s the most important part of baseball.

I heard James Loney quit drinking now that he’s gainfully employed. Maybe, Miguel can follow the adventures of Broadway Loe.

Nothing like laying a big hairy turd in front of their customers and future fans with a resounding 1 and 4 home stand. Neal Solanz had an interesting stat after the game. Since the start of the season, Ray’s pitchers have had a total of 20 – 98+ mph fastballs thrown. The Yankmees pitchers threw 40 – 98+ fastballs in just this game alone. Like in Football. you can’t teach speed.

Rays front office can’t complain about the stadium issue when they put garbage on the field in front of their paying customers…. Don’t expect the attendance issue to ever get better anytime soon, Yankees weekend and a lot of empty seats
