Derek Shelton can’t take the blame for last night’s punishment

All of the sudden, the Rays’ Left Coast momentum has come to a screeching halt.

Enny Romero and Ryan Webb allowed no runs with one hit in three innings against the Mariners last night, but the damage against Drew Smyly was too much to overcome in a 6-4 loss.

That’s two consecutive defeats in Seattle for the good guys after jetting from Anaheim with three victories in their back pocket. That’s two consecutive defeats that will turn a potentially great road trip into a good or average one.

Drats!

Smyly looked shockingly bad, surrendering six runs and 10 hits in five innings. That face plant wasted an offensive effort that featured three home runs – two from Steve Pearce and one from Steven Souza Jr.

Even if the Rays salvage one victory from this Pacific Northwest pit stop, a bitter aftertaste will remain from the past two days. Ugh.

They call Seattle the Emerald City. After Tuesday, it has Joe feeling blue.

5 weeks into the season. Is it time to clean out the infection and get rid of the unproductive players ? Get Matook and Schaeffer up here and get more life into this team ! Memorial Day at the latest. I am excited about the long ball. A couple of 3 run dingers and this season could get interesting.

I am convinced the Rays are lost souls. Cash is not a leader. Front office makes him play terrible players (Morrison, Miller, Jennings, Dickerson, Geltz). After watching games for over 50 years, it feels like they refuse to look at what is actually happening. getting too caught up in analytics, and not seeing these guys fail the eyeball test. It is obvious Jennings is having trouble following pitches, prior performance can’t fix that. Morrison has no plate discipline, and on and on….They want to build confidence in these players while destroying confidence in Beckham. You can see every time he enters a game, he is waiting for someone to take him out. He shows none of the former joy he used to show. Just release him already, it’s too painful to watch.
