Slamming The Door
May 19th, 2016The bullpen’s “A” team was on display in full glory during the late innings yesterday as your Rays gave the Blue Jays the broom treatment.
Erasmo Ramirez went 2 2/3 innings and Alex Colome followed with 1 1/3 to snatch his 10th save after Jake Odorizzi allowed two runs and two hits in five innings. The result? A no-drama, high-satisfaction sweep of the defending American League East champs at Rogers Centre.
Losing two of three to the A’s seems long ago, doesn’t it? Tampa Bay is back to .500 after improving to 9-8 on the road this season.
We’ve seen how manager Kevin Cash has a soft spot for Ramirez and Colome. Yesterday’s victory was proof why. Most of the time, the pair gets the job done when called upon, rather than forcing their skipper to pop blood pressure pills.
So the road show hits Detroit the next three days. The Orioles and Red Sox have been hot, so the Rays must build – and hold – leads to keep pace.
As long as starters go long, and as long as Ramirez and Colome appear as often as possible, there’s a chance the good vibes continue.

Holy Cow!!! LoMo get’s a RBI in consecutive games and a home run to boot.
Odorizzi sucked and didn’t have command of any pitches but yet he limped past the 5th inning to get his 1st win.
For once, having Beckham in the line up was a positive.
I saw James Loney drinking a snakebite at the Zanzibar and his hair was perfect!

A case can be made that Erasmo Ramirez is the MVP of team. Rarely has a bad performance. Comes in pressure situations and delivers. Don’t underestimate the value of “new blood” Motter in the clubhouse. The team has won three straight since his arrival. Maybe Logan and Desmond are concentrating better knowing their baseball career can be halted with one call to the AAA team.
