Owning The Ninth

April 27th, 2016

ColomeRaysThe ninth inning belongs to Alex Colome.

Remember the rumblings wondering how the Rays would fare without Brad Boxberger? Colome has served as a worthy sub, earning his fifth save in a 3-1 victory over the Orioles at the FruitDome last night.

In fact, Colome has converted on save tries in his past five appearances. Joe isn’t saying that Boxberger should be sent to the scrapheap when he’s healthy enough to return. But Colome has made all those doubts about the Rays’ ability to close the door seem as pointless as a Monday-night happy hour.

Colome has gone five consecutive appearances without allowing a run. He has posted at least one strikeout in all but two of his eight appearances. His 1.08 ERA is strong.

What’s not to like?

Boxberger’s return only will make the Rays stronger. Colome can serve as a valuable late-inning arm, and if Boxberger falters, manager Kevin Cash should never hesitate to slide Colome back into the de-facto “closer” role.

Isn’t it nice to have an embarrassment of choices? It’s like trying to select between Angostura and Pappy Van Winkle.

Bottoms up! You can’t go wrong.

Maybe they can assign Brad Boxberger to the Loney Bin.

I saw James Loney sipping Cristal from a silver chalice in the back seat of his Maybach Pullman as it cruised down Central Avenue and his hair was perfect.

Very good Miguel. I’m sure there wasn’t a hair out of place as Mercedes was stroking it.

Bullpen was never a concern or gonna be an issue. No ones perfect but I’ll take our bullpen over anybody’s especially when Box comes back…. Now to get rid of the real concern Lo-Mo (vomit)
