Lost Archer, Maddening Miller, Os Beating

April 9th, 2016

JoeRaysMugChris Archer is a bad pitcher right now.

Yeah, it’s just two starts, but all the troubling signs are there. His location is off. His velocity is inconsistent. The mental toughness is fleeting.

Tonight in Baltimore, the long ball burned him four times in five innings. Last year, Archer gave up about a home run every other start. It was even a cold night, but balls still carried big time off Archer’s lost arm.

True Rays fans recall what a rough September Archer had to close 2015, and that’s really what makes this all so troubling.

Did Archer eat some bad pork in Cuba?

Tonight’s line was five innings, 10 hits, four homers, six earned runs, two walks and five strikeouts — and increased Rolaids sales across the Tampa Bay area.

Speaking of antacid, new shortstop Brad Miller is so darn uncomfortable at shortstop. He didn’t have an error tonight, but you can see them coming. Thankfully, first baseman Logan Morrison was up to Miller’s defensive challenges tonight.

Did Joe mention Miller is hitless on the season? Those chants of  “Cabby” you here are coming from Joe’s couch.

Evan Longoria’s opening-inning bomb made for a nice highlight in this 6-1 drubbing. So that’s something.

It started so promising, then seemed to fall apart so quickly.

The Rays have been in last place every day this season.

    That’s consistent.

Maybe it’s time to send Archer down to Durham to work the kinks out and put Erasmo back in as a starter.

    OMG Logan Morrison’s big bat…….(.071)

    Where’s Loney???

Sure hope Archer can get his head right.

Still don’t understand choosing Morrison over Lonely when your stuck paying his 8 mill salary either way. The very first game of the season Logans poor defense was exposed!

We could of platooned Lonely and Pierce @ first base. That way you have the defense and hitting average with Lonely and the pop with pierce.

The rays don’t make many mistakes but I think they made one here choosing Morrison over Loney. We have enough pop in the lineup with pierce, Souza, Dickerson and of course Longo.

And it’s not like Morrison is a 25 HR type guy. The most he’s ever hit was 23 but he averages around 15. That’s it.

This team is absolutely horrible! Miller and Morrison suck both on offense and defense. The pitching has gone to crap and to give up proven defensive players for this garbage is laughable.

  6. ndog Says:

Look at this team now. Who is actual really good on defense? Longo, KK, Desmond and …… So we have 3 really good defensive players and a crappy offense. That is a great combination. Who picked the guy to pick this team again? Losing Andrew Friedman clearly was huge for us.

OMG THE SKY IS FALLING! relax guys it’s 6 games. I know we’re frustrated with the lack of offense and lousy starting pitching but give it time and they will come around, I promise.

Yes, obviously you are right. Both Logan Morrison & Miller have had issues in hitting & catching the ball. Thought we gave Seattle a great pitcher for 2 turds. Except the line on Nathan Karns was 6 earned in 5 innings against Oakland. So. Who got the worst of this trade. Time will tell. Is it too late to get Loney back ?

  9. Sean Says:

Loney is losing his range and bat speed
