John Gibbons Talks Dresses

April 6th, 2016

dressBlue Jays manager John Gibbons was outraged last night when the MLB replay reviewers in New York called Jose Bautista for interference by his slide at second, trying to break up Logan Forsythe’s throw to first.

What would have been a possible Jays win turned into a Rays victory as a result.

Bautista accomplished his mission, but failed to remember two things: One, you cannot grab an infielder while he is making a play; and two, under a new Major League Baseball rule, anything close to a slide out of the base path is illegal.

Gibbons went off after the game to reporters and hijacked a Jack Lambert quote used about quarterbacks in his tirade, per Gabe Lacques of USA Today.

“Maybe we’ll come out and wear dresses tomorrow. Maybe that’s what everybody’s looking for?”

Well, infielders are not women or even quarterbacks who can’t be hit. But grabbing an infielder, when exactly has that been allowed? Sure, if Gibbons wanted to whine about contact being made on a clean play, he had a point. Bautista not only went out of his way to disrupt Forsythe after he slid over the bag, he grabbed him.

That’s illegal at any level of baseball.

Just because Bautista can get away with showing up pitchers by flipping bats and never worrying about a brushback pitch doesn’t mean he can grab infielders and get away with it.

And, no, Joe doesn’t want to see dudes in dresses. Leave that to the babes in the stands.

I’m a bit disappointed in the Joes. I love you guys, but I thought we may have had our first nickname for JoeRaysFan. Like the Toronto Belles or Peaches or something. Seriously though, I can’t tell you how happy I am you guys brought this page back in house. I come to your sites for your
unique tone. I hope you consider venturing back into the JoeBoltsFan realm. Maybe times have changed….
