Defenseless And Lifeless
April 14th, 2016Joe swears there were audible chants of “Cab-Bee, Cab-Bee” echoing through the FruitDome last night. It’s getting that bad at shortstop, and ineptitude seems to be contagious in the infield.
Poor Drew Smyly, second-rate defense cost him how many runs last night in the Rays’ 4-1 loss to the Tribe.
Again, shortstop Brad Miller got away with booting a ball but stayed out of the “error” column. Evan Longoria and Logan Forsythe weren’t as lucky with throwing errors. And why the hell didn’t Brandon Guyer call off Forsythe on that popup to short right with a runner on third? Basic stuff.
Smyly’s line was seven innings, three hits, two earned runs, one walk and 11 strikeouts.
Of course, the Rays’ offense didn’t help him, only mustering an eighth-inning run that happened because of extreme hustle by Kevin Kiermaier.
On the upside, Brad Miller and Logan Morris got hits and pushed their averages to over the .080 mark.
Enjoy the lowlights below.

On the positive side, Smyly looks great. Whose idea was it to pitch Southpaws consecutively in the starting order?
Nice to see the Dynamic Duo, Miller & Morrison start to swing their bats. One of these days they will actually score a run.
They traded their defense for offense. How’s that working out?
Last place again.
Where’s Loney???

Why do the Rays hate Beckam. It is so obvious Miller sucks. His defense is awful and he can’t hit. Maybe they are waiting for a few hundred at bats to sit this guy. Let’s see…trade a starting pitcher for 4-50 hitting and no defense, way to go front office. I am assuming Cash has no say in anything, not even moving Morrison down in the lineup if he is forced to play this guy. The Rays are lucky they have not lost every game when you think about it. Only 3 come from behind last minute wins are keeping them from being o-fer the season. Things look bleak Rays fans…..makes me sad

And the beat goes on ! Ray’s pathetic team lose 6-0. The turd twosome from the great northwest went 0 for 7 with 4 strikes outs. Oh, and Brad Miller had an error. I was surprised that was his first one. What’s with Conger. Has a streak of not throwing out a runner in the last 44 tries and Cash says the pitcher need to keep the runners closer at first. What is he smoking ? His problem is the time it takes to receive the ball and actually deliver the throw is the worst in baseball. Can’t cure that.

Where would Karns have been pitching bob? The returns so far are not good but if this slump happened in July it would be whatever to everyone

I agree. As good as Karns was last year, they had to try something. Pitching was the strength to deal from…
