Bullpen Domination Rolls On

Xavier Cedeno stays perfect

Be honest: Did you expect this when Brad Boxberger went down? C’mon.

It was easy to picture black smoke rising from the bullpen with manager Kevin Cash rushing to put out a brushfire until Boxberger returned from abdominal muscle surgery.

But it’s been all smiles. Another night, another reason to be bullish on the Rays’ bullpen.

Xavier Cedeno and Alex Colome combined for two shutout innings to slam the door shut on the Indians in a 5-1 victory Tuesday at the FruitDome.

Matt Moore did more bending than breaking in the first seven innings, allowing one run and five hits with five strikeouts. Then Cedeno and Colome held serve as Logan Forsythe and Evan Longoria delivered knockout blows to top the Tribe in the home eighth.

Frankly, no news is good news for the bullpen. All eight arms have proven capable early, with only three earned runs surrendered between them.

Things have turned out to be better than expected. Granted, Rays starters have faltered like a toddler on a tightrope. Still, it’s easy to picture a few more losses by now if relievers hadn’t picked up the slack. Thank goodness.

Let’s hope the bullpen narrative doesn’t change any time soon.

What a game? Great pitching effort by Matt Moore! I think Dwayne Staats said it best, “Matt Moore is back!”

Not only is he back, he looks very comfortable doing so.

Nice to see Logan Forythe, Desmond Jennings, Cory Dickerson, Stephen Souza and Evan Longoria playing well. Kevin Kiermier is balling, he even made that Indian”s home run exciting.

Hickey’s Hillbillies closed out the victory without too much drama and even got the win.

Whose idea was it to throw two consecutive change ups with bad location?

My advice to Kevin Cash is, put Beckham at short and buy Cory Dickerson a first baseman’s mitt.

Good news is that the Ray’s have climbed out of the cellar and they have a winning home record.

    Where’s Loney???

    Where’s Loney

Miguel – The sad part of the James Loney debockel was that he was in the best shape of his life this spring, hit well, and primed to have a great season. Then, when management couldn’t trade him, they couldn’t admit that trading for Morrison & Miller was a mistake and cut Loney owing him 8 million. I hope Steinberg is boiling mad. I would be ! Oh, as for buying Cory Dickerson a first baseman’s glove, yesterday I posted that ” A 1st baseman not named Morrison bailed Miller out on 2 throws in the dirt during a spring training game. That 1st baseman’s Name ?…..Cory Dickerson.
