A Miracle-Free Night

April 14th, 2016

Erasmo RamírezThe bullpen can’t perform miracles, so when Erasmo Ramirez entered in the eighth inning Wednesday, the fat lady’s vocal chords were ready to roll.

What else is there to say? Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco, who missed a no-hitter at the Trop by a whisker last July, muzzled the Rays again in Cleveland’s 4-1 win. Tampa Bay had just one hit through seven – from Logan Morrison of all people.

Ramirez allowed a solo homer and two hits in two innings. But the Indians’ three-run fourth against Drew Smyly was all they needed on a night when Carrasco’s Trop voodoo hexed the home team once more.

Man, good thing Carrasco doesn’t pitch in the American League East. The guy is a walking garlic clove for the Rays.

He improved to 3-0 against Tampa Bay, with a 1.48 ERA in four appearances (three starts) at Tropicana Field. Only the 1.35 ERA from Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish is better among pitchers with at least three starts in St. Pete

Hopefully, the Rays will have a fighting chance in the late innings during the series finale this afternoon. Then perhaps the fat lady will change her tune.
