Veggies The Difference For Steven Souza, Jr.?

March 29th, 2016

Steven Souza, Jr., is exploring new power.

Steven Souza Jr. received diet advice from a surprising source.

That would be Chris Archer.

Souza revealed the interesting nugget during a Sun Sports interview (see below) during Sunday’s loss to the Blue Jays. Turns out, Souza has tried to dump greasy grossness for healthy choices in an attempt to produce more muscular stats. Apparently, Archer buzzed in his ear about eating better last year. “If you’re a Lamborghini,” Souza said, “you’re not going to fill your tank with unleaded.”

Bravo.

Souza said he’s leaner – listed as 6-4, 225 pounds – so it’s good he feels confident about his physique this close to Opening Day.

Last season was Souza’s first significant playing time. He hit .225 with 16 home runs and 40 RBIs in 110 games. It would be nice to see those numbers rise a few notches this summer.

Goodbye, cheeseburgers.

Hello, broccoli and, hopefully, big stats.

Really enjoying the new Rays blog. Should be fun when things heat up soon.

Souza is on a short leash. Mikie Matook should be starting in right field ! Better hitter with power 10+ home runs in just over 100 ABs. Fast defensive outfielder with a great arm. Was the star on LSU’s National Championship team. What’s not to like ? Plus, Souza has an attitude issue.

[…] Steven Souza, Jr., belted two homers, the second a three-run bomb in the eighth that won the game and cemented his 4-for-4 day. It must be the broccoli! […]
