Sticking his nose in Rays business

David Price is wearing a stinkin’ Saux jersey these days, but the Rays’ former ace keeps tabs on Tampa Bay talk.

On Monday, the $217 million man Twittered a screenshot of a text conversation with right-hander Chris Archer from back on Feb. 23, just days after Archer tore into pitching prospects Blake Snell and Jacob Faria in front of the media for waltzing in “late” for a workout at the start of camp.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reported Price sent Archer a text saying the scolding could have happened behind closed doors.

Price, the Batman to Archer’s Robin, seems to suggest he’s owed an apology after WDAE-AM 620 host Rick Stroud said Price’s opinion means zilch now that the 2012 AL Cy Young Award winner makes his coin in Beantown.

“Well, guess what? You don’t play here anymore so we don’t care what you think,” Stroud lectured to his audience. “Tell you what. Tell you what, Chief. You just go up there, cha-cha and pitch in the Boston paaahhhrk. Let’em hit it wicked faaahhhr. Stay out of the Rays clubhouse. You don’t play here anymore, bud. We don’t need your advice. Don’t need your arm.”

Well, Joe knows for a fact Price’s arm could be used in St. Pete. But that’s beside the point.

Price is like the Ghost of Rays Past that won’t go away. Like it or not, he’ll probably chirp in Archer’s ear all season. After all, Archer and Price are tight, and Archer never misses a chance to speak glowingly about all things DP.

As long as Price doesn’t toast the Rays this summer, Joe doesn’t care what the left-hander says to his mentee. Let the scoreboard speak for itself.

    It’s not personal, David.
It’s just that NONE of us give a rat’s ass what ANY Red Sux fan or player thinks.
